Jewish Studies Faculty Research and Travel Grants

The Jewish Studies Program is pleased to announce the availability of funds to support faculty research and travel related to Jewish Studies. Grants are available for amounts up to $10,000 although typical grants will be in the $2,000 to $5,000 range.

Applications due by March 25, 2024: funds exceeding $2,000 to be expended in the Summer 2024, Fall 2024, and Spring 2025 semesters. (If the pandemic makes travel impossible, the award can be deferred). 

Rolling deadline: Faculty can apply for awards of up to $2000 on a rolling basis

Jewish Studies Course Development Grants

The Jewish Studies Program is pleased to announce the availability of course development funds for creating new courses or significantly revamping existing courses that have Jewish Studies content. Preference will be given to courses that can count toward the Jewish Studies certificate.

Grants up to $10,000 are available and can be used for library research, library acquisitions, travel, student assistance, and other expenses related to the development of new courses or major revamping of existing courses. In addition, the funds may be used for guest speakers or other co-curricular endeavors during the first offering of the new or revised course. Under limited circumstances, funds may be available to departments to replace teaching of the faculty member the first time the course is offered. (Those wishing to apply for funds for this purpose must be in discussion with the director of Jewish Studies and the appropriate Dean in their school well in advance of any application.)

Small Grant for Guest Lecturer in Jewish Studies

The Jewish Studies Program is pleased to announce the availability of funds to develop a Jewish Studies component for a courses that are not primarily about Jewish studies. Grants up to $2000 are available and can be used to:

  • Bring a scholar to give a lecture on a Jewish Studies topic in a course that does not focus primarily on Jewish studies. The guest lecture can happen virtually or in person.
  • Consult with the guest lecturer, virtually or in person, about the content of the lecture and/or about ways to further introduce Jewish Studies-related material to your course 

Recipients of the grant will be expected to incorporate Jewish Studies content into at least one class session of future versions of the course. All TTS and NTS faculty, including part-time faculty on multiyear contracts, are eligible to apply. Applicants need not be members of the Jewish Studies Program.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and are due by March 25, 2024
