IN MEMORIAM, IN SOLIDARITY 

Our hearts go out to George Floyd’s family, friends, and community, and to our own black students, colleagues, staff, and neighbors. 

We are grieved and outraged by George Floyd’s murder, and the other instances of repeated lethal police violence against Black Americans. We recognize these acts as the deadly, destructive, anti-constitutional, and systematic oppression of a racially marginalized minority. Peaceful protests against these killings are justified and constitutionally guaranteed. Protesters must not be attacked by police forces or the military. 

Together as scholars, educators, staff, and learners, we believe it is our responsibility to denounce and dismantle the many facets of white supremacy. Together, we adamantly condemn this ideology in all its vicious forms. As teachers, scholars and students who grapple daily with the legacies of antisemitism, we recommit ourselves to learning from black scholars and studying the devastating effects of anti-black racism. Moreover, we recommit ourselves to being advocates of antiracism, and to working towards real and fundamental change to the status quo.
